Sept. 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Congress enacted the No Child Left Behind Act, but what about adult students with disabilities who want to move forward in their educational pursuits?
White Apple Institute, an Arizona-based humanitarian organization that provides resources and services to differently-abled students and teachers is working to expand its reach world-wide (via the internet) to provide support for teachers and adult-age students challenged with mental or physical disabilities, or at-risk issues, and Veterans with Disabilities
Services include: assistance to enhance work performance while adapting to physical and mental challenges; managing issues related to cultural and ethnic diversity and discrimination;  compliance with ADA and the Workforce Investment Act;  resources for adaptive devices and technology; accessibility studies; in-service training for teachers, and rehabilitation counseling sessions via Internet or telephone without leaving the school campus or workplace.    “Everyone has tremendous abilities and potential,” said Danita Applewhite, a certified professor in special education and rehabilitation, a doctoral student at Capella University, and founder of the White Apple Institute in Arizona. “Our goal at White Apple Institute is provide the tools, (emotional, educational, spiritual or physical) to help adult students with disabililities succeed in life.”
Applewhite said she feels compassion for those who live with disabilities, but did not  fully appreciate the extra struggles they faced until she lost her ability to walk after a near-fatal car accident.  However, rather than dwell on her situation, Applewhite found a common bound with the pain that all individuals endure.
“I don’t deny the difficulties I, and others face,” said the Army veteran an advocate for a worldwide disabilities act. “I have just learned how to adapt differently. Now my focus, is to expand the reach of White Apple Institute so we can help other differently-abled adult receive the tools they need to reach their highest potential.”
