TESOL Trainers Provides Professional Development to Myanmar Educators
TESOL Trainers recently delivered a series of workshops to PreK-Secondary school teachers at Total Learning Academy in Yangon, Myanmar. The workshops centered on Scaffolding in the Classroom and Peer Coaching Practices.
“This series of initiatives had two objectives,”
Over the week-long training, about 200 teachers had 12 hours of training on the Gradual Release of Responsibility, its components, and model lessons on scaffolding from all content areas. The workshop concluded with groups of teachers presenting a lesson that captured the components of scaffolding.
“We are all excited to try these techniques out in the classroom,” said one teacher.
In addition, a core group of teachers received experiential training on iCOACH©, a peer coaching system. Over the course of three days, these teachers explored the components of iCOACH©, went through the process as both participants and facilitators, and designed an implementation plan for their schools.
“We were really looking for something that we could do to help our teachers improve their skills on a continuous basis,” said Mohan Aiyer. “John Kongsvik’s iCOACH© program is just the thing.”
TESOL Trainers will return to Total Learning Academy towards the end of the year to provide Part II of both the scaffolding series of workshops and iCOACH©.
