Aug. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- Being a hero isn’t just a character trait for police officers, it’s a job requirement.
What started as one man’s effort to thank police officers all over the country has evolved into a nationwide effort led by the Whole Truth Project and Wives Behind the Badge. On September 15 the public will have an opportunity to thank law enforcement officers in their area. The day has been named Tell a Police Officer Thank You Day.

“We want people to show their appreciation for the job that the brave men and women of law enforcement do every day,” said Chicago attorney and Whole Truth Project founder Andrew Hale of Andrew M. Hale & Associates. “Having represented police officers for several years, I know the difficult job these men and women undertake every day and I think we often take our police officers for granted. We must show support and appreciation for those that serve and protect us."
Nationwide the individual state Auxiliary Committees of Wives Behind the Badge are leading the effort, asking businesses to donate goods or services for police officers on the holiday as a way to say thank you.
“I think that this is a great opportunity for local businesses and people to show their appreciation to the officers in their communities for working hard to keep us all safe. Someone simply saying “thank you”, or being offered a cup of coffee can go a long way to showing the officers our gratitude," said President Tabitha Youngstrum.
Some suggested services or donations include meals, haircuts, laundry services, merchandise discounts – or simply a thank you. A list of businesses and their donations will be made available to officers on duty that day. WBTB will make arrangements to pick up donations that need to be transported to a designated department.
Businesses or individuals who wish to donate items or services to local police officers should contact the Wives Behind the Badge Auxiliary in their area by visiting http://www.wivesbehindthebadge.org/our-work/auxiliary-com... and choosing your state.
