Aug. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- The range of activities typically covered by any of the Water Authorities covers the supply of potable water through to flood prevention schemes.

In the Potable Water sector our services are called upon to provide lining systems that will provide protection against corrosion in the steel tank assets and cementitious lining systems for concrete reservoirs.

All systems used in potable water situations are required to have been certified to UK DWA, European and USA FDA Standards. Within the coating supply chain there are only a small number of manufacturers whose products are certified to the above standard.

In the main the specified linings are epoxies, water or solvent based, 3M who recently purchased Copon are the Major Supplier of DWA Approved lining material.

EP Painting Limited have recently introduced high performance flake filled vinyl ester (FGVE) resins to the industry.  FGVE linings are able to cope with the more aggressive environments.  For instance sand filters, where constant abrasion of the lining can lead to early replacement of assets.

These cost effective lining systems based upon USA formulations of Dow Resins can extend the asset life by many years.  They are being put forward to potential clients who have assets which are beyond their normal lifespan due to corrosion as an alternative to disinvestment.

A typical specification to cater for this service would be to offer a fully reinforced FGVE resin with .300 gram chopped strand fibreglass mat incorporated within the film.  The result of this system is to produce an inner lining of 1.5 to 3.00mm which is impermeable.

Currently we have generated enquiries for this technology from United Utilities and Keldawater.

Recent advances in coating technology such as Oxifree from Orbis Asset Management have opened possibilities to provide a different type of service particularly in environments where adequate preparation is not possible due to prevailing conditions.

EP are currently working with Bristol Water on the application of Oxifree to the flanges and bolts to the service tunnel beneath the River Severn at Bristol (photos attached).

EP have engaged the services of Lee Battersby who has many years experience in the industry from the coating supply angle, his expertise and knowledge of the market is providing the company with many commercial opportunities.
