Aug. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- ‘Vinyl’, a new comedy based on the true story of Mike Peters, vocalist with legendary rock band The Alarm, is set to be released in early 2013. The film is directed and co-written by award-winning director Sara Sugarman - known for a string of highly-regarded movies including ‘Very Annie Mary’ and ‘Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen’.

Peters, who grew up in Rhyl, Denbighshire, where many of the film’s scenes were shot, tried to return to the music scene after years away only to find the record industry’s lack of interest in ‘ageing rockers’. Frustrated by this, he manufactured a pop group who had success in the UK music charts miming to his songs.

Already a festival favourite, ‘Vinyl’ stars Phil Daniels (‘Quadrophenia’, ‘Chicken Run’ and BBC’s ‘EastEnders’), Keith Allen (‘Trainspotting’, ‘Shallow Grave’ and BBC’s ‘Robin Hood’) and hot property Jamie Blackley (‘Snow White and the Huntsman’, ‘London Boulevard’ and the forthcoming ‘300’ sequel).

Acquired from H20 Motion Pictures, Altive Films has the UK and Ireland distribution rights to the production.

Altive MD Craig Shurn said: “We are very excited to distribute ‘Vinyl’ because it has such breakout potential, through great performances and being based on a true story. We believe it will really resonate with British and Irish audiences.”

Director Sara Sugarman added: “We had a lot fun making ‘Vinyl’ and audiences will have just as much fun watching it. I’m delighted that Craig and his team at Altive Films have come on board to push the film out there in the UK and Ireland.”

H2O Motion Pictures’ joint CEO Mark Horowitz, who negotiated the deal with Shurn, said: “Sara directed a really charming movie in ‘Vinyl’, which has played well at festivals we’ve presented at, and is a great crowd pleaser. We’re thrilled to have Altive Films distributing it on home territory.”

The film is produced by Sara Sugarman, John H Williams (the ‘Shrek’ series and ‘Seven Years In Tibet’) and Clay Reed (‘Travelling Salesman’) and was written by Sugarman and Jim Cooper. Andras Hamori and Mark Horowitz are Executive Producers with Altive’s Craig Shurn and Justin Ribbons.
