Emmanuel Baptist Church Welcomes the New York City Community to Jazz Vespers
on Sunday, September 30, 2012

(BROOKLYN, NEW YORK-August 29, 2012): Isaac “Ike” Suggs, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Emmanuel Baptist Church, announced today that “another opportunity to experience the presence of God through the sound of Jazz is scheduled for Sunday, September 30th, during an Emmanuel Baptist Church hosted Jazz Vespers.”  This unique worship experience will take place in the historic Emmanuel Baptist Church, 279 Lafayette Avenue (at the corner of St. James Place), which is located in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, New York.  The Jazz Vespers service will take place on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 3:00 PM.

The theme of the service is: “Experience the Presence of God through the sound of Jazz” featuring vocalists Debbie Carter and Naomi Johnson, accompanied by The JazzSoetry Trio, with Aziza on Piano; Dion Parson, Drums; and, Stanley Banks, Bass.
According to Reverend Norm Freeman, the Jazz Vespers Service is itself a synthesis of several traditions, each finding a unifying voice through the unique musical heritage that we called jazz.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for everyone from our New York City community to worship in a relaxed setting and find God in the spacious freedom of jazz music.  It is a musical tradition that gives us a voice to the hopes, dreams, frustrations and pain that expresses the human experience.   Simply put, Jazz is the musical incense that collects and carries the prayers of a people.” stated Reverend Anthony L. Trufant, Senior Pastor, Emmanuel Baptist Church.
