Hot 97's Angie Martinez Opens Up about Hip Hop and the Future of the Music Industry

The Hot 97 radio star Angie Martinez speaks to TheCelebrityCafe.com to share her love for hip hop and to give insight on what her career entails.

Aug. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- LONG ISLAND, NY (August 28, 2012) Angie Martinez, also known as ‘The Voice of New York’ spoke of the opportunities she seized as a teenager which then skyrocketed her career as a radio star and talk show host. It all began when she moved to Miami with her mother when she was 16 and got offered an internship at the local radio station. Then, she moved to New York at 18 and found another internship at Hot 97 and has been there since.

Angie’s career has given her the privilege to interview various celebrities inside and outside the Hip Hop community ranging from Nicki Minaj to President Barack Obama. However, her biggest dream would be to interview Oprah Winfrey because she is an international icon and humanitarian who has reshaped the world. Oprah is a role model to the radio and talk show host because of her inspiration in the field.

The first Hip Hop track that inspired Angie was the first piece of music she bought with her own money, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh, La-Di-Da-Di, flip side with The Show back when she was a little kid. Her love for the music genre stems from how the music has remained true to its roots in terms of production despite how the industry has evolved throughout the years. She appreciates how each song carries its own personal message that is different and relevant to all audiences. Angie feels that society is too currently focused on staying in the know that people are over the music within a month due to technological advancements and the ability to get ahold of an artist’s complete album in a matter of minutes. Her taste in music dates back to the classic El Cantante soundtrack but includes Nas, Rick Ross, and Adele as well.

Furthermore, Angie’s primary words of wisdom to young aspiring women are to find something you love and to stick with it. Her philosophy is that life is too short to work hard towards something you are not passionate about. She sums it up by saying “know your craft and then go for it!”
