Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day with Queen Quet will engage Gullah/Geechee families in a number of marine education activities including fishing, marsh walks, beach education, cast net making, casting, and films about the Gullah/Geechee culture.
Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day! Celebration of the Sea at Hunting Island, SC
Toyota & Audubon recently selected Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com)
Queen Quet will personally host Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day at the Hunting Island Nature Center on Hunting Island in Beaufort County, SC on Monday, September 3, 2012 which is Labor Day. The event will engage Gullah/Geechee families and supporters in a number of marine education activities including fishing, marsh walks, beach education, cast net making, casting, and films about the Gullah/Geechee culture on the Sea Islands and how Gullah/Geechee survive by using their traditional fishing methods. Queen Quet is calling on all Gullah/Geechee families to come out with multiple generations to share in discussions and fun about their traditions. Queen Quet will present at both events and will share the culture of the community and how the community can work to insure that the fishing industry and health of the waterways in the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.gullahgeecheenation.com)
