Aug. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Yamaha Corporation of America is pleased to congratulate 12-year-old Ezra Trost as the winner of Yamaha’s first-ever Silent Violin Facebook Sweepstakes. The talented sixth grader, who attends Ridgeview Middle School in Gaithersburg, MD, won a new Candy Apple Red SV-130.
Trost’s mother, Marcy, entered the contest on his behalf when a family friend alerted her to the competition.

“Ezra showed an avid interest in the violin as a child and has excelled at it since he began taking lessons in the fourth grade,” says Trost. “Today, he is the violin first chair of his middle school orchestra and is excited to go on to play his new SV-130 in advanced orchestra in the upcoming school year.”

“We are thrilled to present such a gifted young man with this violin,” says Ken Dattmore, Orchestral Strings Marketing Manager, Yamaha Corporation of America. “We hope that Ezra will enjoy his new instrument and look forward to following his continued success.”
Silent Violins were originally created for the Japanese domestic market, where many people live in small apartments, and in close proximity. The instrument was designed to create an easy transition between an acoustic violin to an electric with a “silent” option.

Today, Yamaha manufactures five Silent Violin models, including a 5-string, a Silent Viola, three Silent Cellos and three Silent Basses. The SV-130 allows violinists of all levels to practice almost anywhere, anytime, without disturbing others. Although the acoustic sound is barely a whisper, players hear themselves in a rich, resonant "virtual" concert hall. An aux-in jack with independent volume control allows connection of a CD or MD player for musicians to play along with their favorite recordings, providing a great way to quickly improve their skills.
