Aug. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- BOGART, GA – For over 15 years Mbare has been exhibiting at the NYIGF (New York International Gift Fair), held twice annually in New York City. The show draws 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and 85 countries, and hosts 2,800 exhibiting companies offering the world's best home, lifestyle and gift resources. The fair will be held August 18th through the 22nd with events proceding in two venues off 12th Avenue.

With a newly designed booth, tested at the Atlanta Gift Fair last month, Mbare is excited to showcase their well known Shona Stone Sculptures , Recycled Tin Animals and Masks , handmade sisal jewelry and baskets from Swaziland, Natte Tote Bags from Senegal, non-endangered wood sculptures , and brand new contemporary masks from West Africa and Zimbabwe.

Mbare specializes in bringing handmade, sustainable, fairly traded African art, crafts, home décor and personal accessories to your doorstep. They directly source products of the finest craftsmanship and design, in keeping with their commitment to add value to people’s lives. The producers Mbare works with in Africa are the heart and soul of the business, and they take great pride in sharing the personal stories of these artists with their customers. Mbare's Facebook page, YouTube Channel, monthly Newsletter and Artist Page on their website all gift voice to the lives of the artists they support. Also included with each product they sell is an information tag about the artist.

In the language of the Shona People of Zimbabwe, mbare (pronounced "im-bah-ree") means "a gathering of things" or "a marketplace." Robbie Stewart, the president and owner of Mbare, grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe. "Mbare, Ltd. grew out of my desire to create a sustainable source of income for Zimbabwean artists. I have always had an appreciation for local art found at roadside markets, in urban workshops, or at the homes of talented craftspeople. The artistic skills that Zimbabweans possess are often passed down through generations and represent an accumulation of knowledge and talent. Getting to know families that engage in this work has been a privilege for me."

As far back as 1988, Newsweek Magazine reported, “Shona Sculpture is perhaps the most important art to emerge from Africa this century,” and The Economist calls Shona artists, “The world's best unrecognized sculptors.” Mbare imports a wide variety of Shona Sculpture, in addition to many other handmade African art forms like metalwork, textiles, woven goods, ceramics, jewelry and wooden carvings. Since 1997, Mbare has connected with more than 200 emerging and established artists in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Senegal, Swaziland, Niger and Kenya.

The gift fair will be held August 18th through the 22nd. More information about times, venues and events can be found at the NYIGF Website . Mbare will be located on the 4th floor in Booth 248 of the Handmade Global Design area, in Jacob Javits Convention Center.
