Follow on Google News | Farmingdale State College Student Designs Emerald Summit Conference LogoFarmingdale State College student Patricia Macari has been chosen to receive a Purple Pump Award from Moxxie Network Foundation
In 2012, Macari was in her senior year at Farmingdale State College as a Visual Communications major. Students in their last year are required to take a class entitled “Agency I” taught by Professor Wayne Krush. Students gain valuable experience by working on actual projects for selected not-for-profit clients. The purpose of this pro-bono work is to provide students the opportunity to develop professional quality samples for their portfolios. One of the non-profits to take part in this year’s class project was the Moxxie Network Foundation. The Founder, Beth Meixner stated “Moxxie Network Foundation provides young women with opportunities to learn skills, grow as a professional and become leaders. Tricia Micari and her classmates were given a chance to create a unique design that will be used for years and seen by thousands. These real-life business experiences help prepare students for post-college life." Meixner gave a brief presentation to the senior class on the Foundation's mission and the students were asked to design a unique logo that reflected the concept of The Emerald Summit. “What a wonderful opportunity for our students to gain experience and give back to the community. This is inspiration, mentoring and leadership in action.” said Dr. Lorraine Greenwald, Dean of International Education and Programs as Farmingdale State College. Macari responded to the challenge to provide the logo and states “With lots of trial and error, I came up with a logo I felt they would love!” She was right. Out of a total of 35 submissions, Moxxie Network Foundation chose Macari’s design. The logo features the title, “Emerald Summit” and the three main components of the event; Inspire, Mentor, Lead.
