Change is constant… however we are usually not ready to embrace change regardless of the manner in which it presents itself. September 11, 2001, is a living and unforgettable manifestation of what a sudden departure can engender in our environment, in our communities, in our families, in our lives. The ongoing wars our military bravely engage in is another.

"Be prepared for what?" someone asked Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting in referring to their motto - Be Prepared!

"Why, for any old thing." said Baden-Powell.

A sudden departure makes us reactive. Being prepared "for any old thing" is an active way to live our lives so as o ensure that affairs are in order for the benefit of our families, our support systems.

Preparedness will reduce the depression, grief and shock dealing in dealing with permanent changes in our family situation due to the sudden departure of a loved one which usually leaves us confronted with an aftermath of challenges, the main being how to pick up the pieces of a life just departed.

The ten tips included in the book - Sudden Departure Syndrome- speak to the development and establishment of a climate of Preparedness.  They help to alert people to plan their lives for any eventuality,  sudden or not, so that they can embrace life and celebrate the joy of living, knowing that they have organized their affairs and that their families can easily pick up any pieces and carry on.

The application of these tips facilitate a focus on the aspect of preparedness in living which can be more qualitative, consciously and spiritually. It embodies a relief from stress and distress, and encourage the letting go of fears so as to embrace the joy of living.

The book contributes to improving the aspect of Being Prepared which is usually missing from our lives.  Many of us have some difficulty in organizing and managing our affairs while we live a life in constant fear, a life beset with thoughts that are fearful and doubtful. In addition, there are those who cannot bring themselves to organizing anything for fear that the very fact of organizing would bring about their demise sooner.

Implicit in Being Prepared, however, is the love we have for our loved ones as a sudden departure leaves them helpless and hopeless and out of control as they have no clue as to the ultimate wishes of those departed. Our military families have been facing sudden departures for a number of years as they put themselves in danger to keep us safe.

The tips contained in Sudden Departure Syndrome address the love aspect of organizing our lives and help to redress the fear factor.  It also helps people to live the dash after their birth with quality and impact.  Moreover, we will be prepared in the event other disasters like September 11,  Earthquakes/Tsunamis, etc., present themselves again.

September Eleven 2001, coupled with a devastating health diagnosis, gave birth to the book. Since then and frequently thereafter have been many disastrous events on the ground or in the air manifesting the impact of a sudden departure of loved ones, an impact which can cause unnecessary drama  for those left behind who are faced with picking up the pieces, about which there is usually not a clue.

This book was created to help us carry on with our lives when loved ones suddenly depart, or in the event that we depart suddenly.  It represents a road map of their or our lives.  It also helps those left behind to cope more effectively with any grief or depression that might have arisen.

"Sudden Departure Syndrome has become an epidemic in all nations today, whether from divorce and abandonment or death. Muriel Glasgow following decades of service at UNICEF provides the first “world publication” to heal the pain of Sudden Departures. Finally a cure as important as aspirin in the 1920’s for the modern pains that face us. We all are included in this book through some one we know and hug. RUN to the drug store and get SUDDEN DEPARTURE which like Chicken Soup or Mars and Venus Colliding, and my own recent TAPPING THE SOURCE, is sure to be a mega READ world wide" -. Berny Dohrmann,  Chairman www.ceospace.net, radio show host, bestselling author, movie producer.

Ms Glasgow's  constant travels made her extremely aware of her mortality.  This book was just an idea during that period, especially since there were colleagues who lost their lives while on duty, at times alone or far away from their families, leaving those behind with the task of filling in the pieces of their lives.  The earthquake in Haiti took the lives of many United Nations colleagues, in a split second.  Families and friends are looking into settling their affairs with some difficulty.

"These tips provide an essential aid to all UN personnel, who may be assigned to situations and locations in many parts of the world at short notice, where medical, legal and financial conditions may be deficient and international communications difficult to access. It would be especially useful if generous donors could be invited to fund translation into all the UN languages, at least, so that it could be part of a package of essential information given to all new staff members, both regular and technical advisers." NT, NY

Military Personnel are grappling with the spectre of the syndrome which can rear its head at any moment.

Testimonials are given by those who experienced the sudden departure of loved ones and who are now living their lives moment by moment, organizing and living full lives. There are affirmations and quotes to sustain living life fully.

The idea of Sudden Departure Syndrome is to alert people to plan their lives before a potential sudden loss and to focus on returning to living more qualitatively, consciously and spiritually;  and to help them to release the fear of dying and embrace the joy of living.

The purpose is to contribute to people who have some difficulty in organizing their life, and who can think of nothing else but fear.

The problem most of us face is the suddenness of the departure of our loved ones, relationships, etc.  Their sudden departure leaves us helpless and hopeless and out of control as we have no clue as to their ultimate wishes.

“I had just seen my friend the day before and we had a great discussion going over old times.  He was just settling down into retirement and was planning a trip to his country in three months.  Imagine my surprise to learn the following day that he had died of a heart attack.  And the drama was that he lived alone in Canada, his wife was in California and his daughter in New York…and no one knew where he kept anything….” GM, Toronto, Canada

Sudden Departure Syndrome gives people tips on how to redress the problem of depression/lack of control and  transforms the tendency to chronic depression to a life of liberation and freedom and joy, with  people living their dash with quality and impact.

"Mark Twain's famous words,The rumours of my death are somewhat exaggerated, could serve as an introduction to this handy publication, which is an effective listing for you, how to plan both for your life, and for your afterlife, depending on what you will come back as in your next incarnation. It is a stimulating guide for all the action you would have to take, the sooner the better, not necessarily just for your deplorable passing away, but for greater transitions in your living life. In this book with its beautiful cover of a watchful heron, Muriel Glasgow uses the word "Dash" for the time we are allotted to live on this earth, taken from "The Dash Poem" by Linda Ellis. This reviewer had a similar experience with his recent new marriage with a similarly most helpful checklist. Ms. Glasgow has spiced her work with cheerful quotes. Buy it. Use it. Wisely."
