Aug. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- The West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA) will host its 45th year  of the West Indian American Labor Day Carnival highlighting the theme  “Unity, History, Culture”.  Led by WIADCA’s President Thomas Bailey, the West Indian American Day Carnival Association 2012 Carnival Festival will honor and recognize the historic occasion of the 50th Independence Anniversary of Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago.   We are also thrilled to announce that our Grand Marshalls for the 2012 West Indian American Day Carnival Parade is Activist and Humanitarian Harry Belafonte, Soca King Machel Montano, and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

With an impressive line-up of artists and activities for the four days and nights at the Brooklyn Museum Grounds, the celebration culminates with the gigantic Labor Day Carnival Parade when over 40 Masquerade Bands and some 3 million jubilant spectators and supporters from around the world converge on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn from Schenectady Ave to Grand Army Plaza.

Thursday, August 30th – Mas, Mas and More Mas:  an exclusive Mas event, featuring some of the beautiful Mas bands that you will see Monday in the parade.  Special guest singers Francine, Natasha Wilson and more!  Meet and great your favorite artists.  Doors open at 6pm.  Showtime: 7:00pm to 1:00am.  Admission: $25 in advance, $30 at the door.

Friday, August 31st – Stay In School Concert:  guest appearance by Casym Steel Orchestra. Doors open 1:00pm to 4:00pm.  Featuring Hip Hop Dance, Steel Pan, Karate, Fashion Show, Spoken Word and more!  Doors open at 1:00pm to 4:00pm. FREE

Friday, August 31st – BrassFest:   Machel Montano HD, Triple Crown Winner Celebrating his 30th Anniversary, Patrice Roberts, Young Devyn, Farmer Nappy, WCK, Krosfyah, Edwin Yearwood, and Mr. Vegas.  Music by DJ Spice (30th Anniversary), Eternal Vibes (Teamsoca.com-Florida), Kutters Rhythm Section.  Doors open at 7pm.  Showtime: 8:00pm to 3:00am. Admission: $45 in advance, $50 at the door.

Saturday, September 1st – Junior Carnival. Admission $2 (free for children under 5 years). 33 Bands will participate.

Saturday, September 1st – Steel Band Panorama Competition:   Pan Sonatas, Pantonic, Metro, Sesame Flyers, Adlib, Despers, Eastside Symphony, Harmony, Pan Fantasy, Crossfire, D’Radoes.  MC: Jemma Jordan, assisted by Godfrey Jack.  Music by DJ One Plus.  Doors Open at 6pm.  Showtime: 8:00pm to 3:00am.  Admission: $40 in advance, $45 at the door.

Sunday, September 2nd – Dimanche Gras:  Calypso Rose, Shadow, Young Devyn, Allrounder, Ajala, Black Stalin, Ajamu, Aaron Duncan and many more.  Stilt Walkers, Rhythm Masters, King and Queen of the Bands, MC Wassy, Jemma Jordan and Godfrey Jack.  Music by Sunshine Band and DJ One Plus.  Doors open at 5pm.  Showtime: 6:00pm to 1:00am. Admission: $30 in advance, $35 at the door.

Monday, September 3rd – West Indian American Day Parade: Parade starts at 11am to 6pm. Eastern Parkway & Schenectady Avenue to Flatbush Avenue ext. Costume Bands, Masqueraders, Moko Jumbies, Floats and much more!
