Chief Fire Officer (CFO) designation

Chief Tom Jamison presensts certification to Assistant Chief Tom May
Aug. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- By Tom Jamison, Fire Chief

Fire Chief Tom Jamison is pleased to announce that Assistant Chief Tom May received the “Chief Fire Officer” (CFO) designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC). The CPC awards the CFO designation only after an individual successfully meets all of the organization’s stringent criteria. The process includes an assessment of the applicant's education, experience, professional development, technical competencies, contributions to the profession, and community involvement. In addition, all applicants are required to identify a future professional development plan.
This is an arduous application process. Chief May is the first recipient of this achievement for East Lake Fire Rescue, and there are only 8 others in Pinellas County and 83 in the state of Florida that has this designation.

"Firefighting is not a job - it's a career. We do it to help people; even off-duty firefighters will stop anytime to help someone in emergency. Working at firehouse is like having a second family, we lived together, eat together and work together with fellow firefighters. Throughout my 30 year career I have seen more human tragedy than a seasoned combat veteran. Firefighters are true band of brothers," says Tom May.
