Author Christopher Spencer describes his poem “Childhood” as a carefree and glorious time, but it is also a period when adulation is mixed with fear and sadness. “Carefree laughter, constant cheers/ Ceased applause as conscious nears/ A desperate cling to trusting hands/ The ocean awaits the grain of sand.”

“Will” was the first poem written in the collection and took the longest to complete, at nearly two months. Finishing the poem gave the author the willpower to move forward and write the other poems in his book. As “Will” says, “Alas, Everest appears not so high/ Suddenly, it seems quite possible to climb.” And for all of us with our own mountain to climb, these calming words let us know that everything is possible!
