Aug. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- The Smart Buildings Institute has announced that Ron Bernstein, Principal of RBCG, has been appointed to the Institute’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Bernstein is a Director at RBCG which provides consulting services to organizations developing energy and automation strategies. He also holds the position of LonMark Chief Ambassador supporting the non-profit association with direction and industry stewardship by providing lectures, education, workshops, and support.

Mr. Bernstein recently completed a five year assignment as the Executive Director and CEO of LONMARK International. In this role, he was responsible for the direction and activity of LONMARK worldwide and worked to continue developing open standards, provide educational programs, and grow market presence. He created an Ambassador program to support the organization through education, outreach, and stewardship.

“Ron has been a leader in the industry for many years.  His work in open standards within Echelon and LonMark has placed the organizations at the forefront of industry change. Ron’s leadership in education and training will be invaluable as SBI develops its education offerings and curriculum,” said Jim Sinopoli, Board Chairman. “The Institute is proactive in appointing board members from a broad range of industries with a diverse set of skills and knowledge of the market and its practitioners. Ron’s talent and experience will be instrumental in taking SBI to the next level.”

Mr. Bernstein spent 20 years with Echelon Corporation in a variety of roles most recently as Sr. Director of Commercial Programs and Business Development focused on control systems in building automation, developing open specifications, energy management solutions and implementation of open building control systems and networks.

“The smart buildings industry needs to improve education, set best practice criteria for operational proficiency, and enable broader adoption of new technologies and methodologies,” said Ron Bernstein. “The Smart Buildings Institute’s objectives align perfectly with these industry needs by establishing a baseline criteria and credentialing program for enhanced building systems and will work to identify and deliver the needed educational and training programs to support them. I’m very excited to be part of the team to help bring about these needed changes in the building automation industry.”

In addition to the SBI board, Mr. Bernstein is also an advisory member of the City University of NY Building Performance Laboratory and has been a staff instructor for the APPA Institute of Higher Educational Facility Managers.
