Dollar Dash VS Dollar Dance at Wedding

Being a wedding dj and an entertainment professional, I work with a lot of brides and grooms that either cannot decide between the Dollar Dance or the Dollar Dash, or they simply don’t know one or the other and haven’t given it much thought. I will say now that I am way more partial to the Dollar Dash than the Dollar Dance. Over the course of this article I will explain the pros and cons of each and let you decide. If it seems that I am more lenient on the Dollar Dash when it comes to the cons section for it, I’ve already stated that I prefer it so I’m covered. I won’t bore you with details about the history of each option. Nor will I get too descriptive in the many different versions of each Dance and options to do with each. This article is to simply inform you of the common Pros and Cons I consider when coaching brides and grooms as they decide which to do.
Lets start with the most known and more traditional, The Dollar Dance:

Pros:

-Some consider this a way for the bride and groom to have face time with their guests and to thank them for coming.

-It is a classy and conservative option

-The Best Man and the Maid of Honor collect money from guests in order to dance with either the bride and groom. This money is normally put towards the Honeymoon.

Cons:

-There are many people that don’t want to get out of their seat to dance.

-There will be many people who don’t know the bride and groom directly enough to dance with them even if it is their special day.

-As the Bride and Groom you have to get close to anyone that wants to dance with you and can be very creepy.

****You never know who will want to “Slow Dance” with you during the Dollar Dance. Be Warned.

And now for my personal Favorite, The Dollar Dash:

Pros:

-Your DJ can make this a fun, interactive, and even competitive aspect of your reception and your guests are sure to be entertained.

-Even though money isn’t the only reason to do the Dollar Dash, You are sure to collect even more money by catching all of the guests who wouldn’t normally get out of their seat or want to slow dance with the bride and groom.

-All of the money collected can be put towards the Honeymoon. (I personally have DJ’d a wedding where the bride and groom collectively gathered over $400).

-You have the option to send the Groomsmen and the Bridesmaids out to collect for you as you get to relax and enjoy your drink or food.

Cons:

-Some may think it is in poor taste to have people waving money in the air for the bride and groom

-You’ll have to allot time during your reception to go around to tables and thank your guests for attending instead of during the dollar dance.

****You’re sure to collect more dollars during the Dollar Dash.

Whichever you decide, you are sure to have a great time as long as you have a great DJ to coordinate the festivities. Just to be clear, this article is based on my opinion and experience in the wedding industry. I hope you have enjoyed reading and most importantly that you learned something. Your wedding is your special day. Your entertainment is going to be one of the most memorable and important aspects of your reception. Don’t be persuaded solely on my opinion. Decide what is best for you. As a Wedding DJ, I give my educated opinion and experience information during the planning process. But in the end, it is up to them.
