Get behind the scenes at Downton Abbey

Downton Abbey fans are invited to explore life behind the scenes of Highclere Castle - home of the hit period drama Downton Abbey - in aid of Young Epilepsy, a national charity dedicated to children and young people aged 25 and under with epilepsy.

Aug. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- Taking place on Thursday, 18 October, Lord and Lady Carnarvon will open up their home, one of England’s most beautiful and finest Victorian castles, to help raise funds and awareness of the most common neurological condition in childhood.

Guests will be welcomed into the library at the very heart of the castle, to enjoy a champagne breakfast before embarking on a tour which will take them into the main state rooms and bedrooms, as featured in the show. They will then be joined personally by Lord and Lady Carnarvon, who will give a talk on life at the world famous estate.

The Earl of Carnarvon, said; “We are delighted to welcome the supporters of Young Epilepsy to Highclere Castle where we hope you will have a fun and informative day whilst taking in the atmosphere of Downton Abbey! We wholeheartedly support the vital work undertaken by Young Epilepsy, which does so much good work in research, education and care of children and teenagers with a wide variety of epilepsy conditions. I have visited the centre near Lingfield and have seen firsthand the dedicated care given to children and young people with both lesser and more extreme versions of epilepsy and was struck by how much work goes into making their lives as normal as possible and also by the latest research and cooperation into finding cures for this condition. Please do come and enjoy this event at Highclere Castle and support Young Epilepsy.”

Young Epilepsy’s Director of Fundraising and Marketing, Lisa Farmer, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be given this opportunity and express our upmost thanks and appreciation to Lord and Lady Carnarvon.  These tours provide a rare opportunity to get a glimmer of what life is like at Highclere, but also to see behind the scenes of one of the most popular period dramas.

“As a huge fan of Downton Abbey, I cannot wait to see Highclere Castle. It will make for a very special and interesting day for everyone and with the money and awareness raised from this event we will support the 112,000 children and young people aged 25 and under living with epilepsy in the UK.”
