Aug. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Aberdeen City Council and Robert Gordon’s College are placing their landholdings at Pinewood and Hazledene on the north side of Countesswells Road, Aberdeen on the market for sale for residential development.  The area extends to 27 hectares (66.9 acres) and planning consent is already in place for the development of 350 residential units and 3 neighbourhood retail units.

The site is in a prime West End location, close to Hazlehead Park and woodlands and will provide an opportunity for the provision of executive, family and affordable housing to meet the current high demands brought about by the positive economic conditions in the Aberdeen area.

The sites are adjacent to Robert Gordon’s College playing fields and immediately bounded by existing private housing, Hazlehead Park and Ben Reid Nursery and Garden Centre.

Ben Reid Nursery and Garden Centre, which has occupied part of this land for in excess of 30 years, will still remain in their present location and their business will be unaffected.

Council leader Barney Crockett said: “Considerable interest has been expressed in these sites over the years and this is a very positive move for Aberdeen. Any development at Pinewood and Hazledene will be created with the best for the future of the city in mind and in keeping with the many different needs of Aberdeen, including increased demand for housing as the city and business continue to grow.

“Aberdeen needs new housing, but it has to be in the appropriate place and we will look at this objectively as it comes forward.”

Aberdeen City Council’s director of Enterprise, Planning and Infrastructure Gordon McIntosh said: “This is a prime development site in a sought-after area. It is zoned for housing in the new Aberdeen Local Development Plan and planning permission in principle has already been granted for both sites, for the erection of up to 200 dwellings and three shop units on the Hazledene site, and 150 dwellings on the Pinewood site. “

The City Council and RGC have appointed Ryden as their marketing agents and full details of this development opportunity can be obtained by contacting Bill Duguid at their local Aberdeen office – 01224 588866 or www.pinewoodhazledene.co.uk
