Aug. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- A Ladies’ Evening organised by Ford dealer, Roy Chapman Ltd, in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, has made local women more aware of how to plan for different driving conditions and how to protect themselves against the dangers they could face on the road.

The event, which took place on Thursday 9 August 2012, at the dealership’s showroom in Berkhamsted, was organised by Roy Chapman Ltd to help teach local women drivers the basics of car mechanics and personal self-protection, so that they are less likely to find themselves stranded and vulnerable by the roadside.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Emma Lennox, for Herts Constabulary, talked about planning and thinking ahead for long journeys, what to do during a breakdown, winter driving, tiredness and mobile phone use.

The visitors also headed for Roy Chapman’s workshop where volunteers were encouraged to change a car’s wheel under the supervision of the Ford dealership’s service technicians and were given practical advice including routine car maintenance and checking oil and fluid levels.

Local resident Emma Parkes-McQueen, welcomed Roy Chapman’s practical approach: “the evening was well organised and taught me things about the car that one simply isn’t able to learn elsewhere.  It was great to be able to ask so many questions in such a friendly environment.  I definitely feel I’ve learned something useful about my car tonight.”

Beatrix Hopkins, agreed that the practical approach was best.  “It’s been an age since I learnt how to change a wheel and now, with tonight’s hand’s-on approach, I know I can do it if my car breaks down when I’m on my own.  The police talk reminded me of things I should know but had perhaps forgotten, it was very reassuring.  The evening was well planned and I will definitely recommend it to my friends,” she said.
