Improvisation for Piano: 'New Age' Method Gets Adults Playing Right Away

Chords, melody, and free-play abound in unique 'New Age' piano course!
Aug. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- The piano. So many people would love to play this amazing instrument. But for most, it's just a faraway dream.

But according to pianist and online piano teacher Edward Weiss, this dream may be closer than you think. Weiss has come up with a 'New Age' method that promises to show even a complete beginner how to create their own unique improvisations for piano.

Here's what this 'new age' piano teacher has to say about it:

"I show students how to play something called the 'open position' chord. This chord structure allows the complete beginner how to play with both hands right away. Not only that, it's a modern sound. Most teachers begin students with the humble triad. And while this chord structure has been around for centuries, it's not very modern sounding. My approach brings students into 21rst century."

The 'New Age' style of piano playing has been around since the early 1980's. First popularized by pianist and composer George Winston, it's been growing at a steady pace.

When asked why he thinks New Age piano is becoming more and more popular, Weiss elaborates…

"Many people have a soothing 'New Age' CD somewhere in their collection. And millions enjoy the calm, reflective nature of this music. Sadly, instruction on how to create these soothing sounds is sadly lacking. My lessons fill the gap by giving students the ability to just sit down at the piano and play what they feel in the moment. A precious gift really as the music is coming directly from you."
