Follow on Google News | An Urologist’s Insight into the Treatment for Enlarged ProstateThe prostate is a gland present in male. It is located just below the urinary bladder and encircles a portion of the urinary passage (urethra).Find the main guidelines prescribed by Dr.Taneja during treatment of 71 years old man.
By: Dr Rajesh Taneja- Senior Urologist For the benefit of Mr Sharma and many others like him, we consulted Dr. Rajesh Taneja one of the best urologists in Delhi and asked him to explain the conditions, symptoms and treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) or enlarged prostate as it is commonly known. Dr. Taneja explained that the prostate gland is a small gland in men which is responsible for carrying the sperm cells out of the body. As the male ages, the prostate gland grows in size and bears down heavily and constricts the channel through which the urine passes out, namely the urethra. This in turn results in the bladder having to exert more effort to push the urine through the urethra – repetition of this exertion on the bladder leads to the thickening of the bladder walls. The ultimate outcome of this is the inability of the bladder to empty itself out completely resulting in pain and unease to the body. The exact cause leading to this condition has still not been determined as yet, though research is underway. Being an urologist in South Delhi, Dr. Taneja listed down the following symptoms all of which may or may be experienced by males suffering from an enlarged prostate: 1. Feeling strong and sudden urges to urinate. 2. Incontinence. 3. Needing to urinate more than twice in the night. 4. Experiencing a slow start to the urination process. 5. Having a weak urine stream. 6. Having to strain while urinating. 7. Experiencing pain during urination or passing blood in the urine. 8. Dribbling at the end of the urinating process. 9. Incomplete emptying of the bladder leading to repeated need for urination. 10. Urine retention or the complete inability to urinate. There are several methods of treatment for enlarged prostate both surgical as well as non-surgical. The treatment path opted for by the urologist in South Delhi would depend upon the extent of enlargement of the prostate, the age of the patient and his overall health and physical condition. Dr. Taneja provides the reassurance that the tissue build-up in the prostate is a part of the ageing process of the male body and although it is an extremely disconcerting condition, it is not life-threatening and does not manifest into any serious disease.
