Aug. 8, 2012 - PRLog -- PARK CITY, Utah — After what can be deemed as no less than a 15-year oops, the climbers, hikers, skiers, and, yes, cyclists, at Backcountry.com have finally acknowledged… their customers want bikes, too. Mountain, road, cyclocross, tri — without a full selection of bikes and bike gear on Backcountry, even the most truehearted Backcountry loyalists have been forced to celebrate New Bike Day at somebody else’s shop. Until now.

Starting today, Backcountry.com is adding a deep selection of high-end, performance bikes and bike gear to the site. The selection will include bikes, clothing, accessories, components, tools, and racks. Everything a rider wants, a rider can get — for every style of riding from tarmac to trail.

Backcountry.com’s Bike General Manager, Brendan Quirk, was a long-time customer of Backcountry before joining the ranks. Cycling is his passion, and he found himself on the site buying gear for cycling trips and events, but facing rejection when he looked for anything with two wheels and a saddle, or the stuff to build it, ride it, or fix it.

“Backcountry has offered all the staples of the cycling life except for bike gear itself,” said Quirk. “No chains, no tires, no chamois cream, no brake pads. The site teased cyclists with its relevancy, but it was never more than partial.  I was living proof that cyclists loved shopping at Backcountry, and that nothing would be better than if Backcountry had a comprehensive selection of bike-specific gear. I'm proud to say that the day has come.”

Premium brands are part and parcel to the specialty retail experience. Backcountry’s all-things-bike selection includes (but isn’t limited to): Pinarello, Santa Cruz, BMC, Yeti, Orbea, Salsa, Ridley, Mavic, Easton, Capo, Giordana, Giro, Gore Bike Wear, Louis Garneau, Pear Izumi, Shimano, Campagnolo, Zipp, Fox Racing Shox, Rock Shox, First Endurance, DZ Nuts, Hammer Nutrition, Skratch Labs, Catlike, Continental, Schwalbe, SRAM, Look, Michelin, Vittoria, Feedback, Reynolds, CycleOps, 3T, San Marco, Lezyne, Chamois Butter, Clean Bottle, Northwave, 2XU, Biknd, Motorex, Arundel, K-Edge, DMT, and VeloShine.

And if a customer orders a bike, that bike is built to exact spec in the store’s shop, by credentialed mechanics. Then it’s shipped off, fully built and ready to ride.

All the Backcountry.com perks apply. When customers buy bikes and bike gear on Backcountry, they get the same bend-over-backwards service, fast delivery, and easy, no-questions-asked, unlimited return policy that the company has offered since day one.

Bikes and bike gear will augment Backcountry’s selection of premium outdoor gear for hiking, camping, climbing, paddling, kayaking, trail running, fly fishing, skiing, and snowboarding, creating even more of an authentic mix for customers who do everything outside.
