101 Ways to Generate Publicity for Your Small Business

Women business owners will learn steps to generate publicity and top-of-the-mind awareness at "The Power Conference," the largest conference for women business owners in the Washington, DC metro area. PR Expert Shrita Sterlin will lead the session.

Entitled “101 Ways to Generate Publicity,” the workshop is part of this year's "The Power Conference" in Bethesda, Maryland, the largest conference of women, small business owners in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. According to the latest available U.S. Census data, there are roughly 800,000 businesses operating in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Approximately 34% are women-owned firms.  Yet the odds against long-term survival are daunting. A study conducted by Inc. Magazine and the National Business Incubator Association found that 80 percent of new businesses fail within the first five years. To thrive in a tough economy, small businesses and women-owned businesses have to find new ways to stand out from the competition.

Shrita Sterlin designed the workshop especially for entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to generate buzz and positive media attention on a shoestring budget. During the session, participants will explore media outreach techniques and social media networking opportunities that can raise the profile of their business. Topics to be covered during the session include the fundamentals of publicity planning; how to target and build relationships with the press; optimizing news releases; and surefire ways to get media hits (i.e., television, radio, magazines and newspapers.)
