Students attending the AFS program in Japan have an unparalleled opportunity to dive into Japanese culture. They’ll live with a host family, attend a local high school, and travel to other cities or regions in Japan. Participants return with advanced language skills, a greater understanding of international issues, and an expanded social network that spans the globe. Maxim Lefleur from Cincinnati, a recipient of the Yoshi Hattori Scholarship, studied in both Wakayama and Yokohama last year. “Going abroad and learning how to adapt to a completely different culture helped me develop loads of skills I wouldn’t have otherwise, such as learning a second language and being more resourceful,” AFS-USA is still accepting applications for this life changing scholarship opportunity. Applicants must submit essays and complete the AFS online application by September 25th, 2012.
