Aug. 7, 2012 - PRLog -- Clean Socks Hope and Hope Southern Indiana (formerly Interfaith Community Council) has announced a unique partnership as part of the beginning weekend of Harvest Homecoming. The two area nonprofits are partnering in an multi-organizational event called the Hope Summit.

Executive Director, Jeff Minton said, "We'll be joined by dozens of like-minded organizations, individuals and nonprofits to learn, to share and to develop a new way of building community! I think for a lot of us in the social service field, we've come to realize that being a revolving hand out to those that meet a certain criteria is not beneficial, redemptive or even productive."

Guest speaker for the Hope Summit will be Leroy Barber of (FCS Urban Ministries, Mission Year, Toxic Charity) fame. Toxic Charity is the New York Times runaway best seller by Bob Lupton that brought a new way of thinking to the forefront of how America does Charity. Also included in the Summit is West Virginia Singer/Songwriter, Karen Spurlock.

Mr. Barber has dedicated more than 20 years to eradicating poverty, confronting homelessness, restoring local neighborhoods, healing racism and living what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called “the beloved community.”

In his best selling book Bob Lupton writes, "Our churches and charities have fallen into the bad habit of creating programs to help the poor when in reality the only people they are helping are themselves, creating a toxic charity that needs to be reexamined and fixed."

The Hope Summit will take place Sunday October 7, 2012 as the kickoff event for Clean Socks Hope's 5th annual music happening called the Hope Music Festival. The Summit will begin at 1:30 PM EDT at The Grand Theater, 138 E Market St in New Albany, Indiana. The event is free, but registration is required and can be made online at

Hope Music Festival begins at 6:00 PM EDT (Doors open at 5:30) with the national Music With A Mission Tour 2012 featuring Family Force 5 and Disciple. Tickets may be purchased online at or
