Aug. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- CATHOLIC LAY LEADERS GATHER IN MIAMI TO DISCUSS KEY ISSUES OF FAITH, FAMILY AND POLITICS

SAN ANTONIO (August 6, 2012) – More than one hundred Catholic Hispanic business and community lay leaders from across the U.S. will gather to espouse the values and moral foundations of America’s future at “The Family: Evangelization and Public Witness – From Education to Religious Liberty” conference in Miami, August 24-26. Hosted by the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders (CALL), attendees of the conference will discuss strategies on how best to defend faith, family and freedom as faithful Catholics and faithful citizens.

“All Catholics are called to be active participants in the political process, and have a civic and moral obligation to vote responsibly in the upcoming presidential election,” said Robert Aguirre, CALL president and CEO. “This conference will be a critical opportunity for lay Catholic leaders from across the U.S. to find answers in today’s threatening political landscape,” Aguirre added.

“It is important that we gather as a family and a community of faith,” said Manny Garcia-Tuñon, local Miami businessman and CALL Miami chapter president. “As we look to the political decisions ahead of us, we will reflect on the importance of keeping true to the Church’s teaching on key issues, including how to strengthen our most important social unit – the family,” Garcia-Tuñon emphasized.

Keynote speakers will include Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles; Professor Robert A. Destro, Columbus School of Law; Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, Knights of Columbus; Helin Garcia-Tuñon; Superintendent Alberto Vásquez Matós, Diocese of St. Petersburg; and Kathryn Jean Lopez, editor of the National Review Online.
