He won the Tour De France, making him the first British winner to ever win the competition in its 99 year history.  Then he became an Olympic Gold medallist for the fourth time in his career, getting team GB one of only a handful of Gold medals in the 2012 Olympics so far and his seventh Olympic medal- more than any other British athlete ever!

On track for major success at the 2011 Tour De France, Wiggins’ journey was cut short following a crash, leaving him with shattered dreams and a broken collarbone. Unlike many, Bradley Wiggin’s would not let this ruin all of the hard work and effort he had put in so far. He was back cycling professionally within a month, finishing third in Vuelta a Espana (the Spanish tour) and gaining a silver medal at the world championships.

This year, high confidence and perfect preparation saw Wiggin’s have the best season not only of his own career, but of any professional road cyclist in the world with his Tour victory and Olympic triumph!

In France Wiggins has been branded ‘Le gentleman’ following an incident in the Tour De France this year where tacks were thrown onto the road, puncturing several other cyclists’ tyres. Wiggins was leading at the time and instead of using the incident to his advantage as others might, slowed the whole tour to make time for his competitors and keep the competition as fair as possible.

Most recently, Wiggins’ has used his new found celebrity sportsman status to good use, speaking out about the importance of helmets and road safety following the death of a cyclist near to the Olympic village.
