Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State Launches New "Big Couples" Mentoring Program
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State (BBBSOS) has announced that it is now offering a mentoring option for couples to supplement its traditional one-on-one programs previously open only to individuals.
In the new “Big Couples” program, both individuals are now eligible to become “Bigs” to a single child. The “Big Couples” option, however, will only serve boys who are enrolled in the program.
Traditionally, BBBSOS matches boys and girls, ages seven to fifteen, with an individual mentor in a one-to-one relationship. These relationships are proven to have a profound impact on each child’s life, improving their self-confidence, helping them make healthy decisions, and keeping them in school.
With the addition of this new program, a couple that is married (or in a civil union) over the age of 19, will be matched in a two-to-one relationship with a “Little Brother.” “Big Couples” can then participate in activities all together, or each can share time with their “Little” individually. The match can participate in activities throughout the community, and they will receive the same professional support and guidance that the BBBSOS staff provides to all its other matches.
The “Big Couples” program is a great way for couples to spend time together while also changing the life of a child. The child benefits from adding two new caring people into his life and seeing firsthand how two adults interact in a healthy, loving relationship. The “Big Couples” program is perfect for any married couple, but often has a special appeal to younger married couples or "empty nesters" with grown children.
This new option also provides more freedom and flexibility for busy individuals motivated to mentor, while maintaining consistent support for the child.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State is Rhode Island’s leading mentoring organization, and has been serving children all over Rhode Island for 45 years.
