July 31, 2012 - PRLog -- Toronto ON – July 31, 2012 – Back to School shopping is on the minds of many parents these coming weeks and for most nowhere on their shopping list for supplies, lunch bags and books will you find make-up.  But it’s the battle that been going on for ages.  Most girls want to wear some kind of make-up around the ages of 12-14, yet for some parents it seems too soon.  Make-up Artist Deepa Berar offers Tips to help both parents, and tweens, win the battle.

While it’s hard to define just how much is appropriate and how much is too much. In some cultures it is more widely accepted than others but then again it can come down to just each family’s personal comfort level. Regardless of what make-up you choose or how much, the problem often lies in the color and how they apply it.  Deepa offers these 5 tips to get girls on the right track and help parents ease into the idea of their daughters wearing make-up.

1. Learn the basics first. Neutral shades are key for a young woman’s face – natural and enhancing their beauty, not masking it.  Forget the bright blue shadow right off the bat. It takes time to learn how to apply make-up, much less how to master the use of color.
2. Understand the difference between blush and bronzer. They are not the same product! Bronzer is meant to be applied to the perimeter of the face and under the cheekbones to give your face some dimension and a glow. Blush is meant for the cheeks to mimic how you look when you’re blushing.
3. Brown versus Black liner. Start with brown! It will still give you the look you want without being overly dramatic. It’s more natural and you can work up to black.
4. Master the art of concealer. Foundation is probably the last thing any mom will ok, and while a lot of teens may find that to be unfair, there’s always concealer. Concealer is great to cover dark undereye circles and spot conceal blemishes, which is more than enough to fulfill most girls’ needs.
5. Get into a good habit when it comes to skincare. If you are going to wear makeup, you have to take care of your skin. That means, cleansing, toning and moisturizing..and NEVER sleeping with your makeup on. No matter how tired you are.
