2012 Olympic BMX Competitor Danny Calaug Used to Ride for Bumstead's Bicycle Team in Ontario CA

The 2012 Olympic BMX Competition got a late entry from a surprising source. The Phiippines only has 8 contenders, but qualifying this year was Danny Calaug, US BMX champion who got his start in Ontario California with Bumstead"s Bicycle"s BMX Team.

July 29, 2012 - PRLog -- The oldest bike shop in America can put another notch in its belt.  A decade ago, pre-teen Danny Calaug joined the BMX racing team at Bumstead's Bicycles in Ontario, California.  The likable and humble young rider soon rose to the top of his class, and now will contend for Olympic gold.  Bumstead's Bicycle owner, Lloyd Bumstead, has watched his rise to fame:

"You won't find a nicer kid or family.  We became good friends with the family, and have enjoyed watching Danny C move from neighborhood team to national sensation."

Danny C first tried for the Olympic team in 2008 with team USA, but was unwilling to give up his college studies and head to the Olympic Training Camp.  Last year he decided to use his dual citizenship to create an opportunity for both he and his native Phllippines to medal in 2012.

After a major, around-the-world effort to qualify, Danny had the wins he needed and was able to book his trip to London.  Lloyd Bumstead has created a short video to honor Danny C as he goes for the Gold.  http://youtu.be/4weWbgzsyKw

So at least at one bike shop in Ontario California, there will be mixed emotions about who to root for during the BMX races.
