July 27, 2012 - PRLog -- Runners and walkers of all ages are invited to participate in “The 4 Miler at Garret Mountain” on Sept. 8, 2012, at Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park. The race event, being sponsored by the Sax Macy Fromm (SMF) Foundation, will benefit St. Joseph’s Children's Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department. The hospital is part of St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson and is a leader in comprehensive health care for children.

The 568-acre recreational Garret Mountain Reservation, an area landmark overlooking Route 80 in Woodland Park, is located at 288 Rifle Camp Road. The 4 Miler event will feature a 4-mile run on a scenic USA Track and Field Certified race course as well as a 1.5-mile trail walk. Kids’ dashes, with distances ranging from 25 to 200 yards, will be held for youngsters ages 2 to 11. Entertainment will include a live DJ, prizes, a variety of children’s activities, and food and beverages. In addition, tech t-shirts will be given to participants while supplies last.

The SMF Foundation is absorbing all expenses associated with the event in order to donate 100% of the proceeds raised through sponsors directly to St. Joseph’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department. The department treats children who suffer from cancer and serious blood disorders, such as sickle cell anemia.

“We are seeking corporations, foundations and individuals to join our initial group of sponsors,” explained Robert Paz, managing director of Sax Macy Fromm. “So far, this list includes Mountain Development Corp., Certified Financial Services, Crestron, Mid Atlantic Surety, Milliman, and Valley National Bank.

Anyone interested in sponsorship packages can visit http://www.smf-cpa.com/Events.aspx.

Recognized for its high standard of quality responsive and compassionate pediatric care, St. Joseph’s is a state designated children’s hospital offering a broad spectrum of services for patients from birth to 21 years of age and their families. Private funding is the sole source of ancillary non-medical services for the department. Private donations help to support child life services for patients, including various therapies such as “wish” type activities, as well as entertainment (Wii, music, videos) and treatment incentives.

The accounting firm of Sax Macy Fromm, based in Clifton, New Jersey, established the SMF foundation several years ago to give back to the community. “We participate in charitable work and lead initiatives for good causes, and this is a big part of our culture at the firm,” said Paz. “In sponsoring The 4 Miler at Garret Mountain, we are elevating our charitable endeavors to a new level. We hope people will want to take part in this event to support a fantastic cause and also to run or walk at one of the most beautiful parks in New Jersey.’’

4-Miler Kickoff at 9 a.m.

The first event on Sept. 8, the 4-mile run, will begin at 9 a.m. followed by a trail walk at 9:10 a.m. and kids’ dashes at 10:15 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for overall male and female winners, as well as to winners in the 4 Miler age groups. All participating youngsters will receive finishing ribbons.

Pre-registration for participants, available through Sept. 3, is $22 ($20 for USATF members). The kids’ dash entry fee is $8. To register for the event, visit www.raceforum.com/garret.
