July 26, 2012 - PRLog -- This summer, UAT has taken on a partnership with Blizzard Entertainment that will allow UAT students to help document development tools in the StarCraft II community.  This exciting collaboration involves 10 of our students creating the inner pieces of amulti-player 3D cooperative game against AI.  Students are replacing assignments in their existing coursework with the Blizzard project work. Blizzard has generously donated the development tools and the art tools for our use and students will be able to consult with Blizzard developers along the way. While the outcome for summer will focus specifically on documentation for the Starcraft II, the plan in the fall is to expand the work and include the ART development tools as well.

This is an amazing partnership for many differnent reasons. First of all, Blizzard wants to help build the modding/development community around the SC2 engine and UAT students are eager to help.  This project is especially beneficial to our UAT students as it gives our development team a channel to interact with and get input directly from people using the SC2 engine. The partnership between Blizzard and higher education is great because the benefits can go both ways; SC2 is a powerful tool for teaching and more specificially for game projects, and at the same time, the student projects can be a strong contribution to a development community.

The current project of building & sharing documentation is super exciting
for us because it will directly help bring in and support new developers
on the platform, and provide a starting point for additional institutions
to use SC2 in the classroom.
