July 26, 2012 - PRLog -- Muskegon, Michigan, July 26, 2012  – As part of its ongoing effort to reach a large and diverse regional audience, West Michigan Symphony will present two free outdoor concerts on Thursday, Aug. 23, in Fremont, and Friday, Aug. 24, in Spring Lake.  Both concerts start at 7 p.m.
The concerts will feature compositions by such popular composers as Bartok, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, patriotic favorites such as "The Star Spangled Banner" and “Stars and Stripes Forever,” and selections from Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake Suite."  There is no charge to attend either performance.
A pre-concert Instrument Petting Zoo for children begins at 6:15 p.m. before both concerts and is also free of charge.  Children will have the opportunity to handle and play instruments from each of the four instrument families, strings, brass, woodwind and percussion.  WMS staff will be on hand to help children with the instruments and answer questions.  Part of the Symphony’s educational and community outreach program, the Petting Zoo is a fun and interactive way for children to explore and learn about the various musical instruments.
“We are pleased to once again be able to offer these fun and entertaining summer concerts in West Michigan,” said Music Director Scott Speck.  “The West Michigan Symphony is committed to sharing live symphonic music with the region and raising awareness and appreciation for this music in both children and adults. Thanks to our generous sponsors, we are once again able to provide free summer concerts this year.
“The relaxed environment of the outdoor venues is especially wonderful for adults and children to experience the Symphony.  We are also pleased to be able to offer children a hands on opportunity to see and touch the instruments beforehand through our always-popular Instrument Petting Zoo.”

The Thursday, Aug. 23 concert will take place at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Fremont.  It will be presented by the Newaygo County Council for the Arts and the Fremont Area Community Foundation. The Friday, Aug. 24 concert will be held at Mill Point Park in Spring Lake (located at the end of School Street, south off of M-104).  It will be sponsored by the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation and the Marion A. and Ruth K. Sherwood Family Fund.

As a special offer available only to summer concertgoers, West Michigan Symphony is offering a buy one, get one free promotion on season tickets for the full, Masterworks or Pops series during the week of Aug. 23-31.  Tickets range in price from 2/$43 to 2/$254 with the deal, which is a one-time offer that expires at 4 p.m. on Aug. 31.  No lower balcony seating is available with this offer, and there will be no refunds or exchanges on previously purchased tickets.  Offer does not apply to subscription renewals.
