July 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Katie McCabe suffers from migraines on a daily basis, but that didn’t stop her from creating a product to enter into the Shopify Build-A-Business contest. As a long-time fan of Tim Ferriss, Katie learned about the Shopify contest and decided to enter her “muse” product, a kids’ quotes journal. “My Angel Said What? A Journal for Quotes from Your Little One” is a journal for parents to record the funny and surprising things that their little kids say.

You wouldn’t think someone could publish a book while enduring more than 25 days of migraines per month, but Katie found a way. “I have to spend so much time in bed with my eyes closed that I have a lot of time to think,” says the 36-year-old, who was diagnosed two years ago with a debilitating disease called Chronic Migraine Syndrome. “Once I had the idea for the journal, I would design each page in my mind. Then, when I’d have a few hours of relief from the migraine, I’d quickly put my thoughts into action.”

Katie got the idea for the children's quotes journal when her toddler niece kept saying funny things. One time, Katie asked her niece why she kept going back and forth to the bathroom. The four-year-old answered, “I thought I had to go potty, but my booty just doesn’t know what it wants to do!” Comical lines like that made Katie want to give her sister-in-law a journal to write them down. When she couldn’t find one in stores, she decided to create her own.

Although Katie was new to the publishing business, her background in web development gave her the foundation she needed. And, having read entrepreneurial books like Ferriss’s “The 4-Hour Workweek,” she felt confident that she could navigate her way through an unknown business process. She did the design work and layout herself using free software, and she worked with a print-on-demand (POD) printer to fulfill the orders. Katie says, “From Tim’s book, I learned the tools to create and market a product. I joined the Shopify contest to take advantage of the community aspect of it. I love sharing ideas with my fellow contestants, and I’m learning so much from the mentors.”

The “My Angel Said What?” parent journal has plenty of pages for the child’s quotes, as well as bonus items such as the “You Did It!” section. Sprinkled throughout the book are wise and humorous sayings from great thinkers of the past. It’s a perfect gift for baby showers and young moms. Parents are even grabbing it for themselves. A mom named Kristie says, “I love it! I can't wait to sit down with my kids when they are older and read these fun little quotes to them.”

“My Angel Said What?” can be purchased at its Shopify store, The Shopify Build-A-Business contest has a $50,000 prize and helps first-time entrepreneurs build million-dollar businesses in just months. Contestants choose one of four mentors: Tim Ferriss, Daymond John, Eric Reis, and Tina Roth Eisenberg. Previous winners were the DODOCase and Coffee Joulies.
