The second is failure to set a budget.  Without a defined budget you will invariably end up going over.  It is much easier than you can possibly imagine.  So be sure to set a budget and work with a contractor or the store to meet that budget.  Remember when you are setting your budget that you need to include both the cost of materials as well as the cost of the labor to install them.  Remember though, always leave some wiggle room.  If you tell someone your top end budget, they are going to do their best to use it all.  Plus you always want to leave about 10% for unexpected changes.  Sometimes things come up that you didn’t expect, and you want to make sure that you have money left over to cover those surprises.

Lastly you want to make sure that you have all the knowledge you need to properly remodel your bathroom.  Knowledge is power and can really help tilt the scales in your favor when you are dealing with contractors.  There are many books and even online professional contractor management systems that can help you gain the upper hand when doing bathroom remodeling.
