July 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Grinding your own coffee takes very little time and is very inexpensive, it also allows you to use very fresh coffee for your brewing method this capturing the full flavour and character of the beans.  Regardless of modern packaging technologies once a consumer opens a bag of ground coffee it begins to loose it’s aroma and freshness due to oxidation, this is why grinding your own coffee beans at home is a great way to get fresh coffee.  You can grind your own coffee by choosing one of the below machines.

Different coffee brewing methods require different types of coffee grinds and different grinds require different lengths of brewing time, the shorter the brewing time, the finer the coffee grind must be, as when making an espresso http://www.truecoffee.co.uk/espresso/. Conversely the longer the brewing time the coarser the grind must be, coarser grinds require a longer brewing time where the ground coffee steeps in the water.

Blade Electric Coffee Grinders - These types of grinders use a small electric motor to spin two metal blades at high speed which chop and crush the coffee beans, these devices are great for quick grinding and are easy to clean and pack up again.

Burr Mill Coffee Grinders - These are similar to pepper mills and are great at make the grind even, so the flavour is very uniform and it is quick to clean up. They are available in manual and electric versions and are very easy to operate.

Box Grinders - These types of grinders are often wooden boxes which has a propeller blade which is turned manually and the ground coffee falls into a drawer as your grind away. They are great for achieving fine grains but not ideal for grinding large amounts of coffee beans http://www.truecoffee.co.uk/coffee-beans/

Mortar and Pestle - This is one of the most traditional forms of grinding, yet it is a time consuming process as it requires human muscle and it is hard to achieve an even and uniform grind. When grinding the best result is to achieve an even and uniform grind which allows for an efficient extraction of the oils from the coffee, when a grind is uneven this can alter the taste of the coffee.
