Follow on Google News | Wireless Innovation Forum Members Approve Three New Documents at Brussels Working Meeting“SCA Test, Evaluation and Certification Model Realization,” “TD-LTE in White Space,” and “Information Process Architecture Volume 2: Survey of IPA-like Systems” documents approved
Created by the SCA Test and Evaluation Work Group, led by Randy Navarro of SAIC , “SCA Test, Evaluation and Certification Model Realization” It also aims to define the realization aspects (including business models) of the role based, generic certification process of SCA based SDRs, as defined in "Test and Certification Guide for SDRs based on SCA, Part 1: SCA" (SDRF-08-P-0007- The main areas of consideration will be platform software compliancy aspects including: • SCA Operating Environment • SCA Application or Waveform • Application Programming Interface (API) “TD-LTE in White Space” created by the TD-LTE in White Space Task Group, chaired by Lu Boya of Huawei Technologies, investigated at a high level the possibility for the deployment TD-LTE in White Space (WS) spectrum in areas of location, time or frequency where the primary user is not active. The task group looked at the North American and European regulatory environment for WS and determined that although a clear policy on WS had not been finalized, the trend was to support any system deployment in WS as long as it was done such that interference created by these system operations would not harm the incumbents of that WS spectrum. The document states that “enabling technologies and techniques such as cognitive radio, spectrum sensing, geo-location database access, carrier aggregations, radio resource sharing etc. make it technically feasible to deploy TD-LTE systems in TVWS such that incumbent broadcasters won’t be penalized by TD-LTE operation in their WS spectrum. Also, the coexistence mechanism inherent in the TD-LTE technology ensures that in addition to ensuring no harmful interference to incumbents, harmful interference to other TD-LTE systems sharing the same WS spectrum can be avoided. The carrier aggregation mechanism inherent in the TD-LTE standard for systems operating in S-Band may be extended to operate in the VHF/UHF (TVWS) bands where better propagation and additional spectrum may be found.” Created by the Cognitive Radio Work Group, Chaired by James Neel of Cognitive Radio Technologies Inc., “Information Process Architecture Volume 2: Survey of IPA-Like Systems” surveys existing information exchange protocols to gather insights into how to effectively design information transfer mechanisms in communications systems to facilitate accurate and meaningful adaptations by intelligent agents embedded in those communications systems. Information processing protocols reviewed include: • 1900.6 ¡s an IEEE standard for exchanging sensor related information in support of DSA applications • Cursor on Target ¡s an Air Force / MITRE originated standard to facilitate the exchange of actionable situational awareness information between autonomous systems and humans • Meta-Language for Mobility ¡s a language developed within the Wireless Innovation Forum being considered as the basis for IEEE 1900.5 that allows cognitive radios to understand the meaning of wireless domain information • Standard Spectrum Resource Format ¡s a military standard for expressing the capabilities and requirements of wireless systems in a machine interpretable standard • XML ¡s an extensible standard for providing information in context in a machine and human readable format that provides the foundation for many modern application layer communications schemes Each surveyed protocol is briefly overviewed and then reviewed for insights that can be applied to the goal of facilitating actionable, reliable information for intelligent processes embedded in wireless communications systems. The document concludes with a list of recommendations for developing an extensible information exchange framework for cognitive radio applications. These documents and more are all available for public download in the Wireless Innovation Forum Public Document Library in the Reports section (http://groups.WInnForum.org/ Forum Work Groups, Task Groups and Special Interest Groups met to advance these and others projects at the Forum’s 72nd Working Meeting, 25-27 June, in Brussels, Belgium. The Forum’s next working will be held in Melbourne, Florida, 31 October – 2 November. Hotel information and registration are available at http://groups.WInnForum.org/ End
