Another Study Links Actos to Bladder Cancer

Ennis & Ennis, P.A. Explains the Latest Actos Bladder Cancer Findings

July 19, 2012 - PRLog -- On July 3, 2012 another study confirmed the link between diabetes medication Actos (pioglitazone) and bladder cancer.  [1]. According to this study published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ), Actos users have a 22% increased risk of developing bladder cancer.

This study was published within 35 days of another study with similar findings.  On May 31, 2012, British Medical Journal (BMJ) published a study revealing Actos usage for a period of two years doubled the risk of bladder cancer. [2].

People with Type II diabetes already have a 40% increased risk of developing bladder cancer, according to the background information in the current study.  So the use of pioglitazone, the active ingredient in Actos, compounds that risk.  “I really encourage Actos patients to discuss these risks with their physicians,” comments attorney David Ennis of Ennis & Ennis, P.A.
