July 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Continuing its trend of bold, pioneering shows in the world of historic pueblo pottery, Lyn A. Fox Fine Pueblo Pottery announces Small: Pueblo Food Bowls & Jars 1860s to 1930. Curated by Owner, Lyn A. Fox, Small focuses on pieces that, while smaller in stature, are big on warmth and impact.

The collection consists of a variety of examples, dating back as early as the 1860’s including; a pair of wonderful 1880’s food bowls from Tesuque, 19th century child’s water jars from Santo Domingo, Zia, San Ildefonso, San Juan and Laguna/Acoma; a rare and wonderful black-on-white serving bowl from Acoma. These were never the larger items whose very size suggested significance to museums or collectors. They were often less perfectly formed and painted and frequently exhibit patterns of use in the form of cracks, chips and surface wear from years of home use.

“There is a ghost-like mystery to these 19th century and oh-so-impermanent pueblo pottery small bowls and jars; who made them; how long did they offer sustenance to families;  why are they still here? Small pays homage to this mystery. ”

Following the success of such shows as Black and The Leaning Pitcher, Lyn A. Fox takes another bold step away from what is commonly considered ‘collectable’ to explore the underlying richness and history that exists beneath the surface of historic pueblo pottery.

Small opens at the Gallery’s new Canyon Road location inside Arroyo Gallery on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 with a reception beginning at 5pm and will run through September 30th, 2012. An online preview will be available at http://www.foxpueblopottery.com beginning August 1st, 2012. Show catalogs available on request August 1st.
