July 17, 2012 - PRLog -- St. Louis (July 17, 2012) – Dubbed a must-have book for first-year law students, Malice in Wonderland: What Every Law Student Should Have for the Trip is a candid and humorous peer-based guide book by corporate and securities lawyer turned securities analyst and author Ben Weiss that reveals the truth about the law school experience. Published by The Fine Print Press, the book is currently available for download on Kindle and Nook and can be pre-ordered on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.com.

After graduating from Washington University School of Law with numerous honors and moving onto a career in corporate law, Ben reflected on his law school experience, realizing those intense three years of his life were absolutely nothing like what he had been told (or sold) prior to starting law school.

Written under the pen name Thaddeus Hatter (i.e. Mad Hatter), Malice in Wonderland is written for incoming law students hungry for a punchy, pithy take on law school. Set against an Alice in Wonderland theme, the reader is led on a journey into law school (i.e. “Wonderland”) by a tour guide, “Uncle Malice,” the alter ego of author Ben Weiss. Drawing upon his own mistakes and shenanigans, Uncle Malice enlightens the reader with his brash, colorful, and honest insight. Readers will trust Uncle Malice, welcome his advice, and revel in his antics.

Many law school books suffer from the same tired formula—long, complicated, and boring. Reading these books can be a chore. Malice in Wonderland is a fun and easy read, tackling the important elements of law school, such as outlining, homework, finals, class and grades. Uncle Malice explains why screw-ups in class discussions are like bad Oscar speeches, why “gunners” never have weekend plans, and how to launch a preemptive strike against a professor. Never one to be pedantic or uptight, Uncle Malice keeps the reader engaged with faux names for case studies (i.e. Kardashian v. Dignity), new terminology (“debriefing,” in the “Commandments of Briefing”), and fun stories. Malice educates and entertains in a way that other legal reference titles cannot. Students will look forward to reading it—a novel concept for this genre.

Approximately 140,000 students attend law school and hundreds of thousands of college students consider pursuing it. These students are eager for information on how to excel in law school while enjoying the process. By exposing his own travails with refreshing honesty, Uncle Malice forges a connection with the reader. It is through this narrative—not preachy advice—that the rising first-year law student will come to make sense of his or her impending journey.
