July 17, 2012 - PRLog -- AUBURN, Indiana (July 17, 2012) – The collector car world will celebrate one of its longest running automotive traditions during the upcoming Labor Day weekend when thousands flock to Auburn, Ind., for Auctions America by RM’s third annual Auburn Fall auction, Thursday, Aug. 30, to Sunday, Sept. 2. More than 1,200 classics, hot rods, exotics, muscle cars and more, each carefully-reviewed by America’s leading collector car experts, will cross the block at the historic Auburn Auction Park.

“After 42 consecutive years, Auburn is the longest running event in collector car auction history and we look forward to continuing this Labor Day weekend tradition,” said Auctions America by RM’s President Donnie Gould. “As part of the celebration, we’re offering an incredible variety of vehicles from Brass Era motor cars to modern day collectibles, each meeting the quality expected at one of our auctions.”

To coincide with the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival that takes place each year in Auburn, Ind., Auctions America will offer a 1935 Duesenberg Model J Sedan, formerly the property of D. Cameron Peck. With a well-known history from new, it boasts distinctive coachwork by Derham with updated styling features, including the Art Deco waterfall grille (est. $450,000 - $500,000). Another time capsule of the pre-war classic days is a 1932 Auburn 12 Phaeton (est. $200,000 - $250,000). A rare 12 cylinder model, this Auburn was a participant in the prestigious 2009 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Auctions America will also honor 50 years of Shelby American by offering a pair of Shelby GT350s clad in traditional Wimbledon White with Guardsmen Blue stripes, each signed by the legend himself, Carroll Shelby. The 1965 Shelby GT350 (est. $200,000 - $250,000) is number 260 of 562 Shelby’s built during 1965. Wearing serial number three, the 2011 Shelby GT350 (est. $125,000 - $150,000) was originally owned by Mr. Shelby and features a 624 horsepower, 5.0 liter engine that can push the muscle car to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds.

Another historic Ford, a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 (est. $150,000 - $200,000), will capture the attention of Mustang enthusiasts. This Boss 429 was used as a test bed and drag car for Custom Enterprises in Long Island, N.Y., during the early ‘70s. The dragster was fitted by the staff with 90/10 front shocks, a 1050cfm Holley carburetor, a 610-series Holman Moody cam kit and 5.13 gears. After 38 years, the car shows just over 2,200 miles on the odometer.

“Whether collectors want a well-preserved centerpiece for their garage, a driver for cruise nights or an original car for a custom project, they’ll find it in Auburn,” stated Auctions America car specialist Keith Koscak. “From the rare 1935 Duesenberg Model J Sedan that will impress even the most jaded collectors to the 2011 Shelby GT350, we have something to please everyone.”

Other noteworthy vehicles set to cross Auctions America’s Auburn Fall block include:
•  a midnight black 1953 Buick Skylark convertible (est. $175,000 - $225,000) that underwent a full body-off restoration with more than $200,000 worth of work lavished onto the beautiful Buick;
•  a 1954 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster (est. $60,000 - $70,000)  a recipient of a Bloomington Gold survivor award;
•  a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 R-Code Factory Lightweight (est. $100,000 - $125,000) powered by a 427cid V8, fully documented and restored to like-new condition;
•  an original, one owner, Admiralty Blue 1974 Pontiac Trans Am SD-455 (est. $125,000 - $150,000) equipped with a rare 455-cid SD V-8 engine and showing less than 16,000 original miles since new on the odometer.

Auctions America’s four-day event will be the nation’s premier celebration of the collector car hobby with activities for all ages, including helicopter and monster truck rides; a display of Batmobile replicas, as well as vintage and modern Shelbys to honor 50 years of Shelby American and more. Tickets to the auction are $15 for a daily pass or $45 for a full weekend event pass, while admission is free for preview day on Wednesday, Aug. 29. The auction runs Thursday, Aug. 30, through Sunday, Sept. 2.

“We’ve planned an event that will be fun, entertaining and educational for everyone from the entry level collector to the veteran who returns to our Labor Day auction each year,” added Gould. “It is the perfect way to end the summer in style as part of the Auburn Auction Park tradition.”

Internet, absentee and telephone bidding options are available for those unable to attend the event in person.
