Thai-American Art Exchange on the Traidhos Barge

Paint brushes are not on everyone’s packing list but for a group of American art educators from SUNY Buffalo State College, USA, they were to be an important part of their visit to Thailand.

July 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Catalysed by their passion for art, the American artists were joined by a group of eight Thai Artists including Sathaworn Sri-amnuay and Sanamchai Puangraya with a brief to explore the art and culture of Thailand, whilst travelling the Chao Phraya River between Bangkok and Ayutthaya aboard the Traidhos Three-Generation Barge (http://barge.threegeneration.org).

As two cultures came together new things were learned and shared.  The Traidhos Three-Generation Barge Program is an environmental education program based in Bangkok, working in the field of education for sustainability at different locations in Thailand.  Allowing groups to experience first-hand is an important part of our program mission.  While meeting local village artisans and exploring temples showing traditional Bangkok, Ayutthayan and gothic architecture, the artists saw for themselves the role that the river plays in Thai life and its influence on Thai art.  The group developed an appreciation for historic sites such as Wat Niwet and Bang Pa-In Summer Palace, and found inspiration in their beauty.

Presented with the opportunity to demonstrate their talent, the artists created art inspired by their time on the Chao Phraya.  Their work will be displayed in an exhibition entitled Thai-American Art Exchange on the Traidhos Barge, at Sripathum University between 20 - 24 July, 2012.

Complete strangers at the beginning of their trip, these two groups from different cultures crossed language and cultural barriers through the medium of art and emerged a united group of artists.
