-- Boston, MA- July 12 2012- As the summer creeps into the middle of July, there seems to be a direct correlation between rising temperatures and alcohol consumption. Most likely due to vacationing, beach days and poolside weekends, this increase makes you wonder: what is everyone drinking?
According to a recent survey administered by Survey.com, 34% of the 2,284 respondents drink beer routinely, with liquor coming in second at 30%.
When those who routinely drink beer were asked which types of beer they drink, 23% were patriotic in answering “American beer”, with “Imports” close behind at 18%. About two-thirds of beer drinkers purchase beer either a couple times per month or at least once per week, which falls in line with the 45% of beer drinkers who consider themselves casual beer drinkers. Seen by many as a social drink, 43% of respondents drink beer with friends.
Don’t worry wine connoisseurs, we didn’t forget about you. The most popular types of wine among those respondents who routinely drink wine were Merlot with 15% and Pinot Noir with 14%. Of these respondents, 20% said they have never been to a wine tasting and 28% said they go once a year. 24% of wine drinkers said that they usually pair wine with dinner a few times per month. Specifically who do we enjoy wine with; respondents said 30% with their family and 31% with friends.
