Follow on Google News | Independent wine merchant puts the “fun” back into wineThe Smiling Grape Company, an independent wine merchant based in St Neots, Cambridgeshire is continuing its success of bringing the “fun factor” to wine.
Owner Matt Ellis explains: "By making wine fun we are able to engage better with people who might want to buy our wines. We’ve developed a style of marketing which is essential in today’s tough economic times, by successfully making wine “cool, compelling and enjoyable”. We help break down the barriers of wine which can be quite confusing for the consumer. Other wine shops’ shelf talkers can go into great detail about the wine’s barrel toast levels or yields in the vineyards but example of our tasting notes include: "More exposed fruit than at a Wonderbra convention", "The Kate Moss of wines: beautiful, elegant and in desperate need of some food" or how about the "John Prescott tasting note: Thunderous, weighty and packs a good punch".” The thriving wine business is also creating a new range of wines including the cricketing themed “Saved by the Box” Shiraz from Australia.
