Handling Specialty Manufacturing Ltd. achieves ISO9001-2008 re-certification

July 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Handling Specialty Manufacturing Ltd. successfully passed its ISO 9001:2008 re-certification audit, company president Thomas Beach has proudly announced.  

“Passing re-certification for ISO 9001:2008 is a milestone for any company, but it truly means a lot to us,” says Beach. “Our company engineers and manufactures complex, custom material handling equipment for a number of high profile companies, yet we are classified as a small to medium sized business. What that really means is that we don’t have an endless supply of resources to get us through something as intense as an ISO audit – nor can we slow down our day-to-day business during this process. Everyone in the organization “steps up to the plate” adding these tasks to their already busy days. I rely a great deal on my team to be successful in achieving this re-certification and I know they always do what it takes to get the job done.”

Re-certification was achieved in May 2012 and awarded by consulting company SGS from Mississauga, Ontario.

This time, the re-certification process occurred during an extremely busy time at the company. At the same time the audit was taking place (including preparations and the intensive two-day on-site inspection) Handling Specialty was holding factory acceptance tests for three separate customers who had sent their teams to inspect, test and sign off on their completed equipment; millions of dollars in heavy duty material handling lifts for the transportation, aerospace and entertainment industries.

“Handling Specialty had a lot of very important people in our facilities all at once,” says Beach (Handling Specialty has opened a second location in Hamilton, in addition to its location in Grimsby). And while some companies would balk at this kind of pressure, Beach says the team at Handling Specialty pulled together and made sure everything was completed, and that the customers were 100 per cent satisfied with their equipment.

ISO 9001:2008 is the International Standard for Quality Management Systems (QMS).  It provides companies with a set of principles that ensure a common sense approach to the management of business activities to consistently achieve customer satisfaction. The standards are set by the International Standards Organization.

With quality being such an important factor with our customers and in the manufacturing industry, following internationally-recognized quality standards is something that Handling Specialty has been doing for nearly 15 years, beginning with QS9000 in the 90s.
