NJ Business News: United Way of Northern New Jersey Announces New Board Members

Eighteen months since its inception, United Way of Northern New Jersey continues to grow and strengthen its Board of Trustees, welcoming four new members, reappointing three others and reelecting its officers.
Reelected as board chair was Susan Wetzel, of Warren, who is U.S. vice president of Customer Experience for Johnson & Johnson Medical Device and Diagnostics. Likewise, Vice-chair Mike Millegan, of Basking Ridge, president of Global Wholesale at Verizon was reelected along with Secretary Helen Ong, of Scarsdale, New York., assistant general counsel at Pfizer, and Treasurer Ted O’Dell, of Montclair, who is a community volunteer.
The Board also approved three-year term extensions for Ong; James Furgeson, of Sparta, director of Business Development and Physician Relations at Newton Medical Center; and William Rodgers, Ph.D., of Belle Mead, professor and chief economist at the Heldrich Center for Workforce Development at Rutgers University.
United Way of Northern New Jersey serves the five-county region encompassing Morris, North Essex, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties. The four new board members further broaden and strengthen the range of expertise reflected on the 17-member board, said United Way of Northern New Jersey CEO John Franklin.
“We are extremely proud that United Way is attracting the highest caliber board members as we work to effect positive change in our communities,”
Joining the ranks of the board this year:
· Mark Bode, of Sparta, is a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Mark has more than 17 years of experience serving clients in the pharmaceutical, animal health, and consumer health care sectors.
· Kimberly Burnett, of Sparta, is executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Selective Insurance. Kimberly is responsible for all human resources functions including talent management, benefits, diversity, and compensation.
· Michael Kerwin, of Somerville, is president and CEO of the Somerset County Business Partnership. Mike managed the merger of several independent business entities to create the Partnership, now the county’s primary business advocacy organization.
· Barbara-Jayne Lewthwaite, Ph.D., of Hackettstown, is president of Centenary College. Dr. Lewthwaite took over the helm at Centenary in 2009 and has been intimately involved in the college’s impressive growth as a member of the college’s executive staff since 2003.
In addition, the following members make up the full complement of the board: John Bolich, of Wycoff, an Exxon retiree; Michael Breznak, of Neshanic Station, director of Commercial Contracting at Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems; Daniel Fete, of Dallas, Texas, chief financial officer at AT&T Business Solutions; Rev. Alison Miller, of Morristown, minister of Morristown Unitarian Fellowship; Elin Mueller, community volunteer of Cedar Grove; Don Sheridan, of Emerson, vice president of Application Development and Global Business Services at UPS; Barbara White, of West Orange, principal at Transformation Coaching & Consulting LLC.
