July 11, 2012 - PRLog -- Liberty Center One, a commercial data center in Royal Oak, MI, has announced the successful completion of its SOC 2 (Service Organization Controls) Type II examination.

The independent SOC 2 examination was conducted by Plante & Moran, PLLC, a public accounting and consulting firm who evaluated and tested the company’s internal operational controls and processes with attestation standards established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

In June 2011, the AICPA issued new guidelines specific to data centers and their operational controls. Previously, data centers had adopted SAS70 as an auditing standard which was used for a wide range of controls including financial and regulatory compliance controls.

The new SOC 2 standards include controls intended to meet the criteria for security and availability principles set forth in AICPA’s Trust Services Principles, Criteria, and Illustrations for Security, Availability, Processing Integrity, Confidentiality, and Privacy and are specifically attuned to data center operations. Over 140 operational controls employed by Liberty Center One in 90 criteria were audited by Plante & Moran.

Conducting a comprehensive SOC examination requires substantial financial and time investments, but Liberty Center One considered the review a mandatory aspect of its continuing commitment to process improvement.

“Our dedication to exacting security methods and internal controls has allowed us to consistently offer our clients an unprecedented level of quality and service,” said Rex Smith, President/CEO. “The SOC examination signifies that Liberty Center One makes our business processes and the security of our clients’ data top priorities.”

Liberty Center One selected Plante & Moran to conduct the SOC examination due to the firm’s experience and credibility. “With Plante & Moran’s 85 years of experience and rigorous standards of excellence, our clients can be confident that the findings of the SOC examination accurately reflect Liberty Center One’s reliable internal controls,” said Tim Mullahy, Managing Director. “High availability is a core aspect of our business and the Type II audit confirmed that the controls we have in place are appropriate to maintain superior uptime for all of our customers.”
