Kids Need Dads - Fathers Are Parents Too!

July 10, 2012 - PRLog -- The fatherhood crisis in America is escalating due to the disappearance of fathers from families. A critical demographic trend contributing to father-absence is the increase in unwed child-bearing.  The percentage of births that are out of wedlock in this nation have now increased to over 40%. Only a decade ago, this percentage amount was about 33%.

Clearly, involved fathers are becoming an endangered species. Yet, an active father’s presence is critical to the welfare of our nation’s children. Children with active, loving fathers are significantly more likely to do well in school, have healthy self-esteem, exhibit empathy and pro-social behavior, and avoid high-risk behaviors such as drug abuse, truancy, and criminal activity compared to children who have absent fathers.

The facts of father-absence are startling. In America, 24.7 million children (33%) lived in biological-father absent homes in 2010. 20.3 million children lived with no father (biological, adoptive or step) in the home. This needs to change.
