WGIRLS Take Steps To Empower Young Girls for Tomorrow

Women’s volunteer service group partners with local youth organization to mentor girls

July 9, 2012 - PRLog -- July 9, 2012-- The WGIRLS Coastal  NJ, a volunteer group made up of young professional women, is thrilled to partner with S.M.A.R.T. Girls, a program featured at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County (BGCM).

S.M.A.R.T. (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) Girls is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls ages 8-17. This program is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable adolescent girls to develop to their full potential.

In this partnership, each member of the WGIRLS Coastal NJ chapter will be paired with a young mentee to share life lessons and to help them with the pressures of today’s world. Mentors and mentees will meet once per month to work on various  activities and projects that are part of the program curriculum. In between meetings, mentors and mentees will exchange a journal that will track their progress and development. All activities will take place at the BGCM Red Bank and Asbury Park Units beginning in July and continuing to the end of December 2012.

While supporting young adolescents, the WGIRLS Coastal NJ stays true to its mission: to provide women and children with the support and resources necessary to achieve health, happiness, and the ability to lead productive adult lives.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County is to provide safe places for young people in Monmouth County, especially those who need us most, where they can receive programs and services that will help them realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
